Exhibition of the works by Donatas Gailiūnas-Olinis
The first exhibition of this year in the museum invites you to get acquainted with the creative family who originates from the Biržai Region.
Since his childhood, Donatas Gailiūnas-Olinis (born in 1968 in Biržai) used not only to draw but also to write poems. His graphic works and poems reflect the most important themes for the artist: the closed circle of life, the threatening human power and calming temporality, the value of a man in the nonexistence surrounding him, and misleading illusions.
You will not only examine Donatas’ graphic works but also will be able to listen to his poetry that will be read by Albinas Kėleris, the actor from Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater.
Besides the son's works, the batik works of his mother, Elena Gailiūnienė, are on display with a prominent recurring motif - the image of an angel, wings, or the Mother of God holding a bird in her hands. According to the artist, sacred themes are important because she wants to speak her soul to people: "This is the essence of my life. I'm very religious, I'm happy with the God-given talent to create, so the themes are related to that." According to the artist, she wants the created work to decorate the house and spread good feelings.
A haiku created by E. Gailiūnienė's brother, the longtime chief architect of Šiauliai city and district, Algimantas Jukna-Giedrikas, is also presented. The exhibited haiku are from the forthcoming fourth book "The Past in the Future", which describes the episodes of the author's life and the context of that era. Each chapter begins with a haiku. These are poems not only for reading but also for thinking, not only for the mind but also for the soul.
We invite you to visit the presentation of this amazing exhibition, which will take place on 11 January 2024 at 5.30 in the small exhibition hall!
